Always his Child

Always his Child

The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek…Psalm 110:4

I am not sure if you are familiar with Jeremiah 29:11 where God said “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Sometimes I wonder if that thought ever changes. Does God at some point just look at me and say “you know what? I need to rethink my relationship with you and figure out moving forward if this is still what I think about you?” Hopefully not!!

We hear often that God loves us regardless of who we are and what we’ve done. That’s right even though most times this is used as a cover or an excuse to live life subpar to God’s righteous requirements, it doesn’t make it any less true, God really loves us regardless. Take a look at human relationships, as good and kind hearted as you may be, at a certain point, people’s actions towards you may start to change your mind about them and also affect your attitude towards them. Couples divorce, children get disowned and abandoned, relationships break, employment gets terminated, contracts breached and what have you, all because there is a change of mind and heart at a certain point and the desire to be in relationship or deal with the other party is no longer there and even if you wanted to argue that some of these may have valid reasons behind the change of mind, it just speaks to one thing and that is our humanity and its inability to sustain a relationship regardless of the circumstance.

The good news is that God is different. I guess because he is God and thankfully so. It explains how he is able to be patient with some of us while we figure this thing out. Even when we blatantly go against his will, if he rebukes us, it’s not because all of a sudden he stops seeing us as his children or that we are now castaways. He is able to maintain his feelings and his affection for us even though he is forced to sometimes deal with us harshly.

God can rebuke you one minute and the next he is laying out his plan for your life and how he is going to prosper you and give you victory. Nothing has been made or will ever be made that will separate us from his love or that will ever make him think of us as anything other than his children whom he loved enough to sacrifice his only Son for.

So you can imagine his grief when at the end of life, it is clear that we will not be spending eternity with him and at that time his hands are tied. What a pain it will be to send your son into eternal disconnection from you just because that son or daughter did not heed any of your instructions. Ever talk to a parent whose child has to go to jail or face the death penalty? That’s a heartbreaking experience.

Do we find ourselves in dirt? It still doesn’t change God’s mind about us and I think what we need to do is to use this assurance as motivation to get up, not to give up on ourselves. Embrace it and with boldness go back to God and back into his embrace.  Does it matter however he decides to deal with us as long as he takes us back? Even Psalm 30:5 says he doesn’t get upset forever, it is because what he thought of you then is what he still thinks of you now. His child, his creature that he made in his own image and likeness. The life that he sacrificed everything for.

So whatever it is you think you have done and because of that you’ve run away from home. Whatever state you may be in right now that makes you think there is no point going back because you will not be accepted, don’t believe the lie. God is waiting, his plan for you has not changed and once you come back to him, the journey continues from there. There is no mess that you could have made that is greater than the love that God has for you, so come back home and take your place, it was always there waiting for you.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;
    we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[a]

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord

Romans 8:31-39

If nothing can separate you from his love, please do not separate yourself!!
